On February 14, 2017, Brett Honorio Guerrero, our Beloved Gurfn, took their own life after a long and painful battle with mental illness. Since a young child, Brett always felt different than everyone else - trying to understand why they wanted to play with mama's heels, instead of what Brett's gender norms expected of them. So much of the reprecussions Brett experienced just for being DIFFERENT, led them down a very dark and lonely path.
Brett experienced such a deep misunderstanding in this world with their unique, feminine nature that the world was mostly unable and unwilling to accept.
Compounded on this, Brett suffered from Borderline Personality Disorder, a serious mental disorder marked by a pattern of ongoing instability in moods, behavior, self-image, and functioning. Spiraling downward within this, Brett also experienced extreme plagues of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder traits, and over the past two years, significant debilitating schizophrenic symptoms.
With a combination of mental disorders, along with the battle to find safety and acceptance in their gender identity, and a constant overwhelming pain and emptiness within, Brett felt the pain had finally come to its threshold point - that the ways they were haunted by their heartache and anguish had finally become too much to go on.
The heart-breaking pain and deep sorrow Brett's parents, 3 sisters, extended family and closest, dearest friends are going through now is inexplainable. Brett did not know how much this world loved them. And I know all who loved Brett want to be able to help, to do something in this tragic time to relieve this deep sadness in any way, if they can.
Therefore, we are reaching out to all who knew Brett, all who cared for Brett, even all who cared for anyone who is hurting right now through this - we are reaching out in order to raise money to cover all of the funeral/reception/cremation/etc. costs. Brett's family is going through enough already. No parent wants to have to bury their child. So please, anything you can offer in this time of need would be endlessly appreciated.
Understandably, Brett was never in a mental space to be able to provide much financially for their family. So please, for Brett, let us help Brett's family and let us raise the whole $3,000 in order to honor and cherish Brett in our memories in the most special way possible forever.
One of the main costs will be the cremation. Brett always wanted to be cremated and have their ashes planted into a tree so that they could live on forever.
Please help us to raise the money necessary in order to be able to do this for our most beloved one, Brett, my gurfy, Our Forever Angel.
