Foggy Day stand down Cape Cod 2018
Hi my name is Erik Mitchell and I am asking for your support in making a reunion possible for a special group of Vietnam Veterans on Cape Cod in October, 2018.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the deployment and/or return to the United States for many of the men who served alongside my father in A Co. 1/5th Cavalry Reg., 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) in Vietnam. The Company’s call sign was “Foggy Day”.
In 1968 Foggy Day was working in the northern part of South Vietnam just south of the DMZ. There they fought mostly among the mountains, valleys and jungles in the areas west from Quang Tri to the Laotian border. In late 1968, the 1st Cav Division moved south to the area northwest of Saigon in what was known as III Corps. They fought in Tay Ninh, Katum, Minh Tanh, the Michelin Rubber Plantation, Song Be, An Loc, Quan Loi and other areas in between and beyond. It was a busy and trying time for young men at war. The conditions and experiences they had living together and protecting each other bonded them in a special way.
Over the years they began to search for and find their brothers that they served with. Nearly 100 men have been found and contacted. Many are now retired, living on a fixed income, still working or have the burden of medical conditions and expenses which could make it difficult or impossible to attend the reunion without some assistance.
Our goal is to raise enough money to help with travel, accommodations, food and some entertainment for these fine men to get together again for a weekend of reconnection and recollection and healing on Cape Cod.
