An American in Paris

Jenn Dowell has been invited by the Seattle Nantes Sister City Association  and the city of Nantes, France to attend the Floralies International Flower Show , coming up in May 2019.  This event is only hosted every 5 years. Jenn's job will be to plan and design the entire display to commemorate the sister cities.

Jenn has also been a part of the collaborative design team of the West Seattle Nursery for the past five garden design competitions at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show. The latest display Jenn was a part of earned the Founder's Cup/Best in Show, Best Use of Color Award, Garden Design Magazine Award, Best Use of Horticulture Award, Palmer Garden Creator's Award and the much coveted People's Choice Award in 2018.

All materials for the installation are paid for, along with the airfare graciously provided by the organization, and she will stay with a host family in Nantes, but and all other costs associated with the trip are not covered. This is a huge opportunity for Jenn, both personally and professionally. We, the folks who love and respect our friend and family member, Jenn, are working together to help her raise the money to make this dream trip a reality.  Not only does she need to take the time to design and organize the project over the course of the next 6 months, but she will also need to take time off of work to take the trip itself. The money we are raising is to support Jenn in this endeavor and ensure that she can continue to be a positive influence, not only on her local community, but now as part of an international community, without causing any undue financial stress in the process. Without your support, this trip would not be possible.

As many of you know, Jenn is the founder and director of The Little Red Hen Project in West Seattle. The Little Red Hen Project provides the Delridge community with a way to grow and maintain a backyard food source through their learning garden and classes at the Delridge Community Center. They are a Growing Groceries garden with King County Master Gardeners, and grow produce with neighbors in the context of community building.

The organization has recently been awarded funds from the West Seattle Garden Tour and King Conservation District Community Partnership Grant to not only expand their footprint from 1200 to 4800 square feet, but also to incorporate functional art into their newly expanded garden space.

We are so proud of Jenn for the work that she has done to earn this invitation and support her on her journey to bring her passion, love and vision to Paris.

In addition to the above links, here is a link to an article in Westside Seattle about the current state of The Little Red Hen Project's current expansion.

This campaign is run by Jenn's mom, Patti, her daughter, Zoe, and her boyfriend, Doug. Thank you in advance for your contribution.
