Carole, David & Phoebe

Carole Baekey, David Alcock and their faithful dog Phoebe were brutally attacked Friday night in a home invasion by five men with knives and held at gunpoint. The attack was savage. David was beaten and stabbed through his hand pinned through the table so he could not protect his family. He has broken, fractured ribs and many smaller wounds.
Carole was stabbed four times through her skull, nearly reaching the brain, a knife slash across her cheek and the butt of the gun was used on the other side of her face and back of her skull, neck and back. The extreme stress to her body has created instability and clumsiness, as well as massive pain.
Phoebe, their dedicated dog tried so hard to be the hero. When they entered the home and went after David, Phoebe jumped into action lurching for the robber's throat. She would not allow "her people" to be hurt. Sadly, she too was stabbed in the head. Both Phoebe and Carole had to have the identical head surgery as the wounds were in the same places. Even bloody, laying on the floor she continued trying to save her family, barking viciously. The assailant screamed "shut that dog up or I will kill it" and with that, Carole pushed her deeply wounded body on to the floor from her blood soaked bed and covered Phoebe to save her life.
Anything of value was taken. They lost their computers, cell phones, jewelry, television, car and all of David's tools and equipment so necessary to his work. The final trip out the door by the thieves included them even taking her clothes iron and tea kettle.
David does community work installing RAM pumps for watering crops and supplying water to rural communities in South Africa. He also teaches how to create electricity from waste products and farming practices for basic food. Carole works as an advocate focusing on health care issues currently. As an attorney in the U.S. she worked on human rights issues and continued that work once arriving in S. Africa 28 years ago. They have done so very much for so many souls all of their lives. It is their DNA. To have this horrendous attack happen to them is so unjust. Few people give of themselves as Carole and David.
I am Carole's sister, Beth Myers and reside in Arizona. I am creating this fund for them to get necessary medical care and to begin to replace essential belongings so they both can work again. Any assistance is so greatly appreciated.
