Happy New Year.
Well, if you know me you know how private I am… However, an event happened on a very recent morning that has forced me to share more than I ever would feel comfortable sharing.
Wednesday the 11th, 2017 at 9 a.m, my home and studio caught fire. Suddenly, my safest space was engulfed in flames. Knowing I lacked fire insurance, I dangerously attempted to put out the fire with water hoses, but after burning my hand, I realized my life would be in danger if I continued.
The results of the fire are devastating. Everything I use to make a living is now gone. As a makeup artist of 19 years, I watched the myriad of products and tools it took years to collect go up in flames. All of my artwork, my supplies, my makeup business plans, laptop, and storyboards are no longer. I've invested heavily in and worked so hard to create a vibrant collection of paintings that I planned to exhibit at the end of this year, and created illustrations for a children's book that was meant to inspire kids to love themselves as they are, but what is left of those artworks is sadly just ash.
The fire has been gut wrenching and absolutely devastating for me and the pain is still fresh, but each day, I rise, inhale deeply, and thank God I am alive and here to see another day.
This next sentence is one that is difficult for me, a very independent person, to write. But, I must be honest and admit that I do indeed need help. Your help. So, here I am in need and with my pride aside.
I ask that you do what you can and if you cannot, just send a brother your prayers, love and light. Thank you to the Los Angeles Fire Department, loving family and friends that have advised me to reach out this way. I was unaware of this route and am thankful it exists.
