Hi guys!
We're Hiromi and Paolo and we're amateur astronomers from the Philippines.
We've started an initiative to raise awareness and educate the youth about the wonders of astronomy to our local community. We do this by visiting different parks in our vicinity and setting up free telescope viewings and having mini-lectures to children and interested passers by. Our advocacy is to spark an interest for Astronomy and Science, focusing but not limited to the youth.
We've begun this gofundme page to ask the people of the world to help us fund a new telescope and to continue providing free workshop materials for children.
As you may all know, our country has limited access to technology such as this. Our first telescope was purchased years ago in the U.S. and was made possible by a stroke of luck from relatives coming back from there. Since then, the mount has started to show some electrical issues making our activities limited only to when it is cooperating with us. We don't have the financial resources to make this possible because of the large shipping and customs fees that entail this project.
We hope that you will be able to help us in bringing the cosmos closer to young curious Filipino children so that they may be able to one day contribute to the study of the stars as a whole.
