Fierté Timmins Pride is about integrity in education!

It’s more than creating a safe place for the 2SLGBTTQQIPAA people of the community to celebrate diversity, acceptance and inclusivity. Pride week is about educating the community to promote awareness of those key focuses with a goal of creating a community that accepts everyone as they are.

Pride Week is set to run from Monday, June 3rd to Sunday, June 9th this year with the theme “I’M INclusive”, playing on the City of Timmins slogan of “I’M IN”.  The Fierté Timmins Pride Board of Directors wants the city to explore the concepts of Safe Spaces, Education, Awareness and Inclusivity; the best way to do that is to change the focus of Pride Week.
 
Traditionally, Pride Week has been about celebrating diversity.  This was achieved by flying the Rainbow Flag at City Hall, escorting a colorful parade through the downtown core and throwing a big party for the 2SLGBTQ+ people and their Allies.  It was fun and it will continue but more must be done.  A call to action has surfaced.
 
The Board would like to see the City lead the way in the festivities this year.   If the community hosts Pride Week 2019, we can use our resources for another purpose; education.  Schools need GSA’s, teachers need a greater understanding about their student population.  Businesses and Organizations need to know that a Safe Space means more than “everyone is welcome”.  It’s about Political Action, not political correctness.
