We are adopting!

Dearest Friends and Family,

It is with great joy that Veneet and I announce our decision to adopt a child!

Now before we get into the details, we want you to understand how we got to this point and why we chose this path.

Veneet and I met each other in 2009 on an online dating website. We were married in July of 2010 with the hope of starting a large family.

However, we tried for 2 years to conceive but to no avail. Believing something was wrong, we sought advice from our reproductive endocrinologist who recommended that we try intrauterine insemination. Hoping this would be a solution, we tried two rounds, which did not produce any positive results. This led us next to attempt In Vitro Fertilization.

As many of you know, insurance does not cover these treatments and the costs are astronomical—ranging anywhere from $20,000 to $35,000 for each round, And those costs don’t even account for the lost work hours. To financially prepare for this procedure, Veneet and I both worked as many hours as possible, sacrificed where we could, and built our savings, and. After months of anxious preparation, we decided to try our first cycle.

Unfortunately, it did not produce a positive outcome.

We decided to try again. Over the next few years, we saved and worked and went through 3 more cycles. They were all unsuccessful. Each attempt was increasingly harder on us both emotionally and physically.

During the end of the last round, the doctor mentioned to us that endometriosis might be the cause of our many failures (why this is not checked before you even try the 1st cycle of IVF is a question for another day).  After a great deal of research, we asked my OBGYN to conduct all the relevant testing

To our dismay, I was diagnosed with stage 4 plus endometriosis.

What that essentially meant was that my organs and pelvic tissue were fused together by scarring. In her doctor’s own words, ‘it was the worst case he had ever seen,’ and was well beyond his capabilities to fix. He instead referred us to a specialist who specifically deals with such extreme cases.

We were grateful to learn of such a doctor, but we would incur steep costs to retain his services. During the initial consultation ($700), the specialist informed us that I had to have invasive surgery and recommended scheduling it as soon as possible. He guaranteed that he would remove every bit of endo and assured us that my life would return to normal once the procedure was completed. Unfortunately the operation itself was $27k (which the insurance would not cover). We decided to have the surgery immediately, as recommended, and scheduled it for the following month. Already deep in debt, we were forced to add another loan to the pile in order to afford this crucial surgery.

The day of the surgery, we were informed the operation would take anywhere between 3 to 4 hours. Due to several complications, the procedure took over 10 hours to complete. We cannot praise the doctor and his office enough for the professionalism displayed throughout the whole process.

We hoped this would have marked an end to our woes, but after the surgery, I came home and fell sick with a fever. After it lasted more than a day with symptoms only getting worse, we headed back to the hospital to get it checked. We ended up at an emergency room in the city at 1 A.M and informed that I had an abscess. This would result in several more weeks of hospital stay and additional surgeries.

After eventual recovery, we were hopeful that the worst was behind us and looked forward to the three month follow-up exam. To keep this already long story short, the follow-up revealed that I again needed to have another surgery to remove endo that had regenerated and was put on permanent medications to prevent it from recurring. The doctors could not guarantee it would not relapse.

It was immediately after we found out the endo was returning that we decided to proceed down the path of adopting a child.

So here we are now…nine months into our adoption process, and we estimate that it is only 30-40% complete.

Adoption is a long and expensive process requiring funds for court fees, immigration fees, passport, travel expenses, orphanage costs, our child’s health checks, agency costs, home-study expenses (etc, etc.). Veneet and I have done everything in our power to pay for all of this ourselves but the costs have quickly surpassed what we can afford.

So, it is only as a last resort that we humbly ask for your help. Any donations or assistance toward our adoption process would be highly appreciated. We understand that everyone has their own expenses and we are deeply grateful to you for taking the time to read this and pray for us; it is all we can really ask for.

We will regularly update this page as our journey continues. If there is any information we can offer that may help those in a similar situation, we will gladly share.

Throughout this long process, Veneet and I never gave up on our hope of becoming parents. We are blessed to be able to call all of you family and we can’t wait to add a child to our home. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your care and support. The love we have for you all is immeasurable.

Love,

Angie and Vin
