Merry Christmas everyone!! It’s that time of year again to try and help as many seniors in the ocean/Monmouth county area as we can. Last year was pretty successful so I upped the goal by $500 this year. I know I normally do this is October/November but it’s taken a while to get the “ok” from our grocery store partner to match every donation, dollar for dollar, in the form of grocery store gift cards.
All donations will be used to purchase grocery gift cards that will be distributed at The Peoples Pantry and The Hope Center in Ocean County and to Lunch Break and Project Paul in Monmouth County. Depending on how much we raise, I would like to drop off some cards at a few senior centers to be given to any senior who needs them. There are no applications to fill out and no approval process. They are given out on a first come first serve basis and I truly believe that no one has ever received a card that didn’t need it.
Its not just homeless people that struggle to buy food. We have thousands of senior citizens who have to make a daily decision on whether or not to buy food or buy medications. Some have families who can’t help them and some don’t have anyone at all. This will be our 4th year helping to feed those who need it, and hopefully there will be many more years to come.
I know this is an expensive time of year for everyone and I don’t expect any one person to solve this problem. If everyone just gave a little...the price of a grande latte at Starbucks...we’d reach our goal in no time. Let’s put aside all the talk of differing politics and opinions and come together to make a difference in someone’s life. No donation is too small...a $5 donation equals $10 in groceries and that can buy someone who needs it bread, milk, cereal and eggs for a week. If I skip one dinner out with my husband and use that money for a donation matched grocery card...a 2 person family can buy enough food for 3 meals a day for 2 weeks. THREE MEALS for 2 people for TWO WEEKS and all I have to do is skip ONE dinner out!
Please like and share with everyone you know. If you know anyone who would benefit from the gift of groceries, please pm me and I will make sure they get a card. I’m going to run this campaign for the next 30 days but will be getting the cards as donations come in.
