In October of this year, Salvador and Julie were pleasantly surprised by the birth of their beautiful daughter, Isabella, in Salt Lake City Utah. Isabella was born prematurely but was in good health. Isabella was then transported to Kaiser Hospital in California where she is currently in the NICU. Isabella is getting stronger and stronger by the day and with God’s will she will be home soon.
Earlier this November, Salvador went into urgent care for a sinus infection. The doctor decided to admit Salvador due to blood lab work showing low hemoglobin count. They gave him a blood transfusion and monitored his blood level. The doctor believed the root cause was because of a medication Salvador was taking. The medication might have caused a folate deficiency. After receiving folate he was supposed to be discharged from the hospital. While he was excited to go home, he was more excited to see Isabella who was on a different floor of the same hospital. After a few hours later, Salvador was given news that his red blood cells are looking good but that his white blood cells were low. This could be due to several factors ranging from a simple virus to cancer.
The doctors kept Salvador another day to run more tests. The doctor still believed that the root cause was because of the medication but couldn’t give 100 percent certainty. That didn’t sit well with Salvador so after talking with Julie they decided to request a bone marrow biopsy. The result of the biopsy came back and Salvador was notified he had Leukemia. This shocked the Ortega family as they were celebrating the new addition to their family. Salvador is in good spirits and will fight and beat this cancer. He starts chemo on November 30th.
I am asking friends and families to come together to support the Ortega family during this time of hardship. All donations will go towards any medical expenses and necessities for Isabella. Any unused money will be towards Isabella’s college fund.
