L’aide humanitaire coule dans mes veines, mais difficile d’en faire quand on a quatre enfants…alors pourquoi ne pas partir en famille! Donc voilà notre projet, partir un mois faire du volontariat à Puerto Plata en République Dominicaine toute la famille à la mi-juillet 2017. Cela sera une belle initiation pour les enfants et mon conjoint, une expérience enrichissante qui peut changer une vie!
Qui sommes-nous?
Moi, Isabelle Couture, technicienne en travail social, mon conjoint, Mathieu Morel, aviseur technique dans un concessionnaire (mécanicien de formation), Esteban (14 ans), Trystan (14 ans), Anastasia (10 ans) et Kilian (3 ans). Nous habitons Coaticook en Estrie au Québec, Canada.
Pourquoi la République Dominicaine?
La réponse est simple, en plus d’avoir de nombreux besoin, nous avons découvert la fondation Suncamp un lieu qui pourra nous accueillir et où les volontaires y sont accueillis avec des projets déjà mis en place. Plus précisément, nous irons à Munoz (dans le Batey), une communauté d’environ 14,000 personnes, d'origine Dominicaine et Haïtienne. Les deux populations vivent dans la plus grande misère, la plupart dans le bidonville. Les Haïtiens ont échappés à leur triste destin dans leur pays pour se retrouver marginalisés et dans une pauvreté extrême en RD, ils ne jouissent pas des mêmes privilèges que les villageois d’origine Dominicaine (n’ayant pas de citoyenneté, ils ne peuvent travailler légalement ou aller à l’école).
Il y a actuellement 7 projets, mais 4 nous intéresses particulièrement où moi, mon conjoint et nos trois plus vieux pourront s’impliquer personnellement, soit : 1- Pour les enfants: Utilisation du temps libre des enfants qui sont dans les rues afin de prévenir la délinquance, 2- Améliorer la vie des adultes en général à l’aide de sensibilisation, d’éducation et d’information, 3- Création de microentreprise et 4- Amélioration des logements. . Les objectifs étant d’aider les gens à devenir plus autonomes et conscients des solutions à leurs difficultés.
Comme dans beaucoup de projet de volontariat, les volontaires doivent débourser tous les frais reliés au voyage (billet d'avion, assurances-voyage, vaccins, équipements, tout autres transports sur place, ect.) et dans notre cas multiplié par 6! En plus de nos dépenses, les fonds amassés serviront à nous procurer de l’équipement pour nos activités, à créer des microentreprises et à améliorer des logements.
Nous aider, c’est aussi aider une communauté pauvre de réfugiés haïtiens et dominicains à retrouver sa dignité sur le plan éducatif, sanitaire et social.

Humanitarian aid flows in my veins, but it is difficult to do with 4 children… so why not do so as a family! Therefore, our project is to travel as a family to Puerto Plata in Dominican Republic for a period of one month to do volunteering at mid-July 2017. This would be a great lifetime opportunity for my children, my partner and I.
Who are we?
I, Isabelle Couture, am a social worker technician and my partner is Mathieu Morel, a service advisor at a car dealership (mechanic formation). Esteban and Trystan are 14 years old, Anastasia is 10 years old and Kilian is 3 years old. We live in Coaticook, Eastern Township, Quebec, Canada.
Why Dominican Republic?
The answer is simple. In addition to having many needs, we have discovered the Suncamp foundation, which is a place that could welcome us as volunteers. Volunteers are welcomed with many projects that are already in place. More precisely, we would travel to Munoz (in the Batey), a community of approximately 14 000 people of Dominican and Haitian origin. Both populations, for the most part, miserably live in the shanty town. Haitians escaped from their country seeking for better lives, however, they found themselves marginalized and in extreme poverty. Unfortunately, Haitians immigrants without citizenship do not enjoy the same privileges as the villagers of Dominican origin as they cannot legally work or go to school.
There are currently 7 projects, but we are particularly interested in 4 where we, as a family, can get personally involved. These 4 projects are: 1-With children: occupy children that are in the streets to prevent crime, 2- Improving the lives of adults in general by awareness, education and information, 3- Creation of small enterprises and 4- Improving housing. The main goals are to help the population become more independent and informed of the available solutions to their difficulties.
Like many volunteering projects, volunteers must pay all travel expenses (plane tickets, travel insurance, vaccinations, equipment, any other transport fees on site, etc.) In our case, these fees are multiplied by 6! In addition to our expenses, the funds raised will be used to provide equipment for our operations, help create small enterprises and improve housing.
Helping us is also helping a poor community of Haitian and Dominican refugees to regain their educational, health and social dignity.
