Family Law Legal Costs

Raising money to afford legal and attorney fees for a family law case involving my daughter. My husband (not her biological father) has been her constant roll model and parental father figure since she was 5 and she has been calling him daddy ever since we’ve been together; she will turn 12 this year. She has asked for the last four years in a row to have her last named changed to my husband’s last name and just recently asked him to adopt her. We would very much like to make that happen in the near future but we are currently facing financial difficulties in affording an attorney to help us fight for our daughter to continue to get the child support she needs from her biological father, who by his own choice has not been in her life. I have sole parental responsibility of our daughter for her safety and well-being. Just recently, her biological father filed to have the child support amount he pays lowered and barely makes payment as it stands and owes upwards of $30,000.00 that she will likely never see. We are trying to fight to make sure she continues to get a monthly payment of a reasonable amount, but attorney costs are a minimum of $2500.00 as a retainer and $250/hour after that, not including the cost of filing paperwork through the court system. My husband and I both work full time and I attend school part time at a local college thanks to government grants and scholarships, but it is still a struggle to afford upfront attorney fees. I know it is a long shot, but we are desperate right now and that’s why we are turning to go fund me. Anything you can donate will help. Thank you.
