I am reaching out to you all as my 74 year old father is in critical condition in Costa Rica as he has contracted Septic Shock Syndrome while visiting there.
Septic Shock is an infection that occurs mostly in the elderly and very young that has a low immune system which my father has. The bacteria and fungal infections attack all organs including the heart, lungs and kidneys and brain aggressively and rapidly. Even with the best medical care, which fortunately he is being provided, it can still lead to death. He is in the best hands with top doctors at the hosptal. I was able to meet with the medical team, but being that his U.S Medicare/Supplemental Insurance does not transfer to international countries, his much needed healthcare bills are growing to an astronomical rate, and unlike in the US, the medical bills in the Costa Rica hospital need to be paid ongoing on an almost daily basis. To keep my dad in the hospital and continue his treatment, he will need all the medical assitance and help he can get.
I spent 11 days out there with my father as it is very important that he has loved ones nearby to give him comfort and love to get him through, but I have had to return home. The doctors are very hopeful that he WILL survive.
In the meantime, I am asking help to cover his growing medical bills as he has been in I.C.U.for over 3 weeks now and still not concious, but that takes time for the healing process to take place due to the severity. His kidneys are completely shut done and they are only functioning because of a specialized kidney machine that he is on. He is on a breathing machine and as of yet unable to speak or breathe on his own. He also has a secondary viral infection in his lungs that occured while being in the hospital because of his fragile immune system.
As a family, we do not have physcial access to pay for his medical bills, I am reaching out from my heart and humbly asking you for donations for Dad's medical care costs.
