My sweet dog Toby has been my best friend for the past 10 years. It’s just him and I at home, and he’s truly my heart, my family, and my constant companion. This past week has been one of the hardest weeks of our lives.

Last week Toby had his very first seizure. It came out of nowhere and completely terrified me. Six days later, he had his second seizure and the vet told me to take him to the ER.

The day before thanksgiving, we ended up in the ER, where they ran tests and discovered that Toby is anemic and has two masses on his spleen. The vet told me he needs surgery as soon as possible to remove his spleen and biopsy the masses to make sure they aren’t malignant.

I’m doing everything I can to take care of him — giving him medication eight times a day, monitoring him closely, and trying to hold myself together through all of it. But the cost of the surgery and his ongoing care is more than I can manage alone. The estimate for just his splenectomy is around $3,000, not including all the tests, medications, and emergency visits that have already happened.

I’ve never been someone who asks for help easily, but Toby means everything to me, and I just want to give him the chance to get through this and feel like himself again. If you’re able to donate or even just share this page, it would mean the world to both of us. Every little bit helps — truly.
