Run for Equality

Donation protected
As college students, we recognize the privilege of having a safe and supportive environment to self-isolate in during this pandemic, whether on campus or at home. Unfortunately, this is not a reality for all Australians. “Stay at Home” restrictions, whilst good for our health, are confining victims of domestic and family violence to their households and cutting off access to vital support networks. In Victoria, women’s support service WAYSS reported a doubling of police requests for assistance with cases of gendered violence. Other charities and associations are challenged with significant decreases in donations and funding due to the economic implications of COVID-19. It is so important that we do what we can to protect these vulnerable individuals, who face heightened danger from abuse and neglect with limited access to protection services. Over the coming weeks, our colleges will compete in a race across Australia. Each college will run/walk/jog a cumulative total of 3418km, the distance between Perth and Melbourne, to raise awareness for gendered violence and equality. We have also set a fundraising goal of $5000 to be donated to Our Watch, the national leader in the primary prevention of violence against women and their children in Australia.
