Keeping Seniors Connected

Donation protected
This has been a week full of challenges I’m sure none of us could have foreseen. In order to protect the health of the elderly, one of the most vulnerable populations, we must unfortunately and drastically restrict the number of people that they come into contact with. Under guidance issued by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nursing homes locally in Frederick have already taken such measures of precaution by limiting all visitation except for end-of-life situations.

I came across an article about two ladies who are helping to ease the minds and help provide “virtual visits” between families and nursing home residents by collecting donations of iPads for their local nursing home facility. Inspired by their efforts to help, I’d like to coordinate a similar program here in Frederick, MD.

Myself, my husband (Kevin), and a friend (Jacob) are collecting donations for new, used, or broken iPads (or other tablets with camera capabilities). Any device (working or otherwise) will be greatly appreciated. Any monetary donations will be used to purchase the repair parts, and any remaining balance will be used to purchase new devices.

·       I’ll be working on the coordinating end of things (helping identify a plan for 3 local nursing homes in how their staff can schedule with families and facilitate the use of various video chat software like FaceTime, Zoom, and Skype for the residents).

·       Kevin and Jacob both work in electronics and will provide repairs to broken donated devices.

·       All devices will be sanitized according to CDC guidelines prior to delivery to the nursing home facilities.

If you feel inspired to donate new, used, or broken devices please feel free to mail these to us directly.  I can provide you with our mailing address by reaching out via email at [email redacted].

If you have any questions or ideas on how to help, please also feel free to reach out via email.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and the happiness you'll bring to the residents and their loved ones with your contribution towards their virtual visits.
