Help older women into secure housing

Older women are the fastest growing group of people facing homelessness in Australia.

Older Women in Cohousing (WINC) invites you to be part of a solution to that sad statistic.

WINC was formed 8 years ago to support women across the financial spectrum move into safe, sustainable and secure housing. WINC will build a cohousing community of 31 small private homes for women over 50 in central Victoria. The project includes 4 homes for women eligible for social housing, 5 homes for women who have some funds but not enough to buy - 'Middle Women', and 21 homes for women who can buy their homes outright.

Middle Women are women who have too much for social housing eligibility and too little to secure a house for themselves. They often spend what assets they have on unaffordable rental, then become eligible for social housing - but face a 10 year wait for a home.

WINC established the philanthropic Middle Women Housing Fund (MWHF) to help fund the gap between the Middle Women’s modest assets and the price of a WINC home. WINC will own the home with the Middle Women in a shared equity arrangement. When the women vacate their homes, WINC’s proportion will return to the MWHF to support another Middle Woman. And so it goes, forever, thanks to your perpetual gift.

So far, generous donations and fundraising efforts have raised $1,150,000 of the $1.4 million needed. We now need your help to raise the rest.

As Australia continues to grapple with its worst ever housing crisis, your donation will help establish WINC as a breakthrough housing model that can be replicated for other vulnerable communities across Australia.

As you make a donation, please be aware to CHANGE the ’tip calculator’ in the GoFundMe donation system, as it is set to 17%, which you probably don’t want to pay.
