Young Family Needs Help After Sudden Loss

Our beloved friend Matthew Henriksen passed away on March 17th, 2022. We are devastated by this unexpected loss. We established this GoFundMe campaign to help Matthew’s family with living expenses, and to help Samantha afford time to focus on raising Benji and Harriet, both under the age of 2, without her beloved partner.

 

Matt taught English at Haas Hall Academy in Springdale, AR, as well as to incarcerated people, as a volunteer for the Prison Story Project. He was the author of the two poetry collections, Ordinary Sun and The Absence of Knowing, both with Black Ocean. He ran, with Katy Henriksen, the small press Cannibal Books, and, with Adam Clay, the literary magazine Typo, among many other editorial projects. He was a dedicated member of the St. Paul Episcopal Church community, with his wife Samantha. He was beloved by all he encountered and gladly gave his love in return. His was a life of service to his community and to those most vulnerable. He leaves behind his wife, Samantha, and three children, Adele, Benji, and Harriet. They were everything to him.
