YNC aims to bring a Community Café to York City Centre, using intercepted surplus/donated food to prepare healthy allergy-friendly meals, in an effort to raise awareness around food waste & its environmental impact.
All main dishes will be offered to you on a Pay As You Feel basis, while priced goods such as beverages, cakes and ethical retail products will be reasonably priced in line with industry standards. When you visit us you will also have the option to purchase an item on a Pay It Forward programme, allowing someone else to claim it when they need it most.
Various free & paid groups, events & workshops have been developed to appeal to all demographics & will be scheduled Wednesday to Sunday. Themed toddler sessions will be held twice a week with a safe play area on hand. Our Arts programme is aimed at lessening social isolation through creative practice and our Zero Waste activities can help you on the road towards more sustainable environmental practices.
Our Volunteer Programme aims to lessen isolation via social prescription & is open to any interested individuals, thus creating community cohesion & building relationships.
This inclusive & welcoming environment will act as a Community Hub for all York residents & visitors alike, serving as a full days entertainment or a place to pop in for a quick, healthy meal. Being a welcoming, family-friendly space, the cafe will cater for people from all walks of life. Parents & carers will find an educational toy & book library for their kids, as well as being able to purchase various craft bags to inspire & delight.
All of this & so much more awaits you & the best part is it's all just around the corner. We have less than 2 weeks to raise as much capital as possible so please be generous. These funds will be used to pay for our start-up expenses in this exciting new venture. Your support will mean bringing this dream into reality.
