My daughter needs your help

Mothers, parents, all over the world do whatever they can to support and protect their children. I am writing to ask for support for my daughter, Katie, who is trying to support and protect her daughter. If you know me, you know that it is hard for me to ask for help. But mother to mother (parent to parent), I am asking now.

 

Katie is a beautiful spirit. She is a poet, a dancer, a traveler, and a healing arts student and practitioner. She radiates life and love. She decided to leave Baltimore to accept a job in Austin, but fell in love with Mexico on the way. Eight months ago she gave me an equally beautiful granddaughter. She is the center of our universe.

 

As all too often happens, the father became abusive shortly after the baby was born. Katie went to Mexico for a training and is now staying there to keep herself and her baby safe (as refugees). She has thrived there learning Spanish and furthering her career as a healer.

 

This is where help is needed. While Katie can sustain a happy life for her baby in Mexico, she cannot cover the mounting legal fees. She has a protective order against the father and is seeking full custody. He closed their joint accounts and took her share. He does not pay any support for his daughter. So she cannot fight this battle without help. She has retained both Mexican and American attorneys, but the costs are mounting. Her baby’s father is a doctor with limitless resources.

 

I am trying the best way I know to support and protect my daughter and granddaughter – by raising money. If you are able, please help us fund the legal process to sever this abusive relationship and grant her sole custody of my granddaughter. Any amount will help and is deeply appreciated. Please share.
