Mid June My mom woke up with the worst headache she ever had. So bad that she went to the hospital. At the ER she was rushed from her small town hospital to the bigger local for scans. From there she was medivaced to Kelowna for immediate surgery.
She had a brain aneurysm and it had burst.
9 hours of surgery, 3 days on life support, and 2 weeks in ICU she finally was able to come home. My stepfather drove 2.5 hours each way, every day to see her, and wasn't able to work.
Since then it's been hard. She can't be left home alone, and as such they have nearly no income. CPP and EI for her doesn't pay the bills and they are currently overdrawn. My brother and I are doing what we can but it's not easy. I live on the other side of the country and my brother on the other side of the world.
