Home From Home
I’m aiming to raise money for Durham University Hospital Radio Station by walking from London to Durham.
I month. 232 miles. London to Durham. Home From Home.
The first half of my life revolved around sports, mainly hockey, and fine art. At 18 I made a choice to pursue art and move to London.
September 2019 is the point where I shall have lived in two cities for the same amount of time. The first 18 years in Durham, where I was born, and now, 18 years in London, where I live.
My parents, Lori and Tony, drove me to London to start a new chapter not long after finding out my mum had breast cancer in 2001. They didn't want our situation to stop me from pursuing a dream. In the following years I spent many an hour travelling up the east coast main line at the drop of a hat, thinking about all the country, the land, the people in between us. One day, I said to myself, I am going to walk this.
The timing wasn't correct back then, and now with such a personal milestone approaching I’ve decided to complete the challenge. Set over the month of September, I shall walk Home From Home, London to Durham, Clapton Pond to Gilesgate, 14a to number 6.
Over those years, The staff at Durham University Hospital looked after parents, and after my mums passing the became like a family to my pops. The radio station, an integral part of the community and care the hospital offers, and the amazing volunteers that donate their time, energy and skills, became a huge part of his life. I’m aiming to raise money to help them carry on the work they do.
