WHAT IS OUR GOAL?
We are trying to help our friends and family who are on the front lines of treating COVID-19 patients, as doctors and nurses.
The funds will be used for shipping masks (KN95, FFP2, and surgical) from suppliers in China. While not NIOSH-approved, the FDA has cleared these masks for emergency use . This document shows the comparison between types of masks. We've already identified medical workers and hospitals who are willing to take these masks.
$10,000 will buy over 5,000 masks, which we will be shipping to medical workers all over the US -- NYC, Chicago, Detroit, Philly, Atlanta, etc. -- either directly to hospitals or through friends and family who are doctors.
100% of donations will go directly into mask purchasing and delivery. We have self-funded the first shipment and will not be making money off of this campaign, but rather will just be recouping some of the cost of this shipment.
Our team includes members with experience in imports from China, and we have taken steps to vet our vendors, including: obtaining certificates and verifying those certificates through the testing agency's website, and asking vendors to send photos of the packaging and verifying company on packaging matches those certificates. We are also clearly documenting what we know and what we don't know about the products we are donating, so that hospitals and healthcare workers can decide how best to use them.

WHO ARE WE AND WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
We are a group of friends who went to MIT together, who have found it difficult to sit back and do nothing as this crisis unfolds. Like many of you, we have been distraught over the shortage of PPE for healthcare workers on the front lines of treating COVID-19 patients-- particularly for some of our family and friends who work in this field. It's become clear that in many cases, hospital systems and the government will likely not be able to move quickly enough to meet PPE demands. We felt the need to take some action to help keep our friends and family safe-- which in turn helps everyone in the end by keeping the spread of the virus in check, ensuring that those who treat patients stay healthy and can continue their important work, and minimizing risk for patients themselves.
