Medical Mobility and Access Fund

On 31 December 2015 our world forever changed.  Patrick fell down a long flight of stairs to a concrete landing resulting in a skull fracture and severe Tramatic Brain Injury (bleeding throughout his brain).  Patrick underwent two emergency brain surgeries in the first 24 hours.  He initially had a grave prognosis and had a tough fight.   Patrick was in ICU for a total of 22 days (18 days in a coma).  He as been in a rehabilitation hospital since 29 January.

Patrick continues to tackle his recovery with true Navy Chief spirit.  After 23 years of Naval Service, 20 of those years stationed with various Marine Corps units or bases including combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, failure is not part of his vocabulary.  Patrick has recovered beyond what was expected and we truly believe this was a result of the prayers and support from family, friends, Veteran brothers/sisters, and Boy Scout family members.   It has left us feeling loved and forever humble.

As his rehab continues to progress and he continues to work hard, I am preparing for his return home.  I was approached by wonderful friends offering to assist us.  They have volunteered countless hours, skills, equipment and resourses to put in an accessible driveway and wheelchair ramp for our home  as well as assist in the planning phase of our adaptive home needs that will have to be completed in order to bring Patrick home.  They have been speaking to me for a long time now about allowing others to assist us in other ways.  Several have asked if they could assist with these expenses as this is how they could help.  All assistance collected through this fund will go directly to the driveway, ramp, adaptive home renovations (bathroom and bedroom access) and vehicle modification.

Patrick's injuries are not service connected and although the inpatient care is covered, insurance does not assist with home accessibility upgrades.   Patrick is no longer able to work and my employer has supported an extended leave of absense without pay to care for him.

Our family cannot thank everyone enough for the prayers and overwhelming support that we have gotten over the past three months.  As we continue to work towards being able to live at home, please know that everyone's kind words, listening ears and visits mean the absolute world to us and keep us going in a forward direction every day!
