Tuesday, October 28th, 2025, Hurricane Melissa made landfall on the beautiful island of Jamaica. My family, who live in rural St. Elizabeth, an agricultural powerhouse of the nation---often referred to as the "Breadbasket of Jamaica"---received the brunt of the destruction with historical 185 MPH winds and significant rain.

Many homes were destroyed, with roofs being violently ripped off and walls being torn apart. Many of their possessions and farmlands are now destroyed, with the beautiful, luscious greenery now reduced to bare trees and apocalyptic scenery. 90% of the homes are now without a roof and the occupants homeless. There is an immediate need for tarps, cleaning supplies, food, clothing, and building supplies.

The people in my family's community are some of the most kind, God-fearing, hardworking people I know and often come together to help one another in times of need. With many residing there for generations, and with their homes and businesses being reduced to almost nothing, I want to help support the beautiful people who have sacrificed and taken care of others when they were able.

My name is Britney McDonald, and while I currently live abroad, I want to give back to my family any way I can. Any assistance of any amount will be lifesaving. I plan on using donations to send food, clothes, and funds to rebuild and restore the well-being of those in the community. Other collaborators for this fundraiser will be my twin sister Breana McDonald and cousin Yoshoy Byettrussell, who have also experienced the kindness and love from our family.
