A Family in Need

A Family in Need.

A month ago, my aunt came to me with an idea. We were talking about how our family has grown apart and what we needed to do to bring us all closer together. She had spoken with another aunt and passed on ideas to help lift the spirits of our family member, they called it a "healing", and we decided to begin with my parents.

For years I've contemplated ways on which I could help bring my family to enjoy life, to "live" again, but never had a successful outcome because I was in it alone. But this time it will be different.

I'm not using this site to haggle people for money, but to raise funds to help lift the burden off of my parents shoulder and
I am asking for your help.

My parents :
For those who have never had the honor of meeting my parents, I'd like to tell you a little bit about them. They are compassionate, loving, selfless, wonderful people, who have been through hell & back, and still carry on by helping other people. For as long as I can remember my parents have always lent a helping hand to those in need. They have given back so much of themselves to friends, family members and complete strangers, without asking for anything in return. If you have ever met my parents, you would understand how much they deserve this. They are people who give more then they have, they have sheltered many friends, family members, even friends of friends, making sure they are out of harms way, giving them a warm meal and a bed to sleep in. Here are only some examples of all the wonderful things they have done throughout life.
This August will be 12 years since the passing of my brother Jason. My parents have been suffering in silence ever since. The loss of their son at the age of 18 has left them in a deep depression. As strong ad they are, I know for sure that it hasn't gotten easier for them and I cannot bare to see them suffer anymore.
We hold a fundraiser in my brothers name every year to raise money for scholarships to give to underprivileged children going into high school and we also have a toy drive to give toys to the Ronald McDonald House. We used to have a 3 on 3 basketball tournament to help raise money for our charity, but it was too stressful for my parents to do a lone and this has also put guilt on my parents hearts, because we haven't raised the funds like we used to. My mother is always talking about how she wishes she can give more, (which I find crazy) yet I admire her, for wanting to give back the very little she has.
6 years ago, we almost lost my father. He was in the hospital for months on end and discovered he had a blood disorder which caused blood clots in his legs and his lungs, on top of the other ailments he has. And ever since he has been unable to work and unable to put work into our house. As the medical bills starting rolling in, funds became extremely low, leaving our new "fixer upper" (unfixed) the least of their worries. This house has become a great burden to them because of the work that needs to be done.
My father has been unable to work due to many ailments and my mother is still grieving the loss of my brother and has given up the will power to go on. My oldest brother has been suffering from limes-disease for more then 15 years and is too suffering from depression. I'm doing this for my family. Because I can not stand to see them so down, depressed for another day. By giving them this renovation I believe it will help them have a new out look on life. Something to look forward to. A kitchen that you can cook family meals in, a dining room that can seat enough people to enjoy the holidays, a bathroom that doesn't look like it's going to fall from the ceiling, and to give them one last thing to worry about.

For me, I am trying to live by what my parents taught me,"give to those who are less fortunate & to treat everyone with love and compassion. Give and NEVER ask for anything in return and treat others as you would like to be treated."
I'm asking for you to find it in your hearts to be generous and give back to two people who deserve it more than anyone I know, my parents.

My family and I decided to surprise them with a house renovation. We are hoping to raise enough money to get the supplies that we need. We are looking for monetary donations, gift cards (Home Depot, Loews,Bed Bath & Beyond,Visa,Amex, etc), home renovation supplies in new or good condition, and volunteers for labor.
Please find it in your heart to give back, because they are the best parents a girl could ask for. They truly deserve this.
Every little bit counts.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Lisa Rodriguez
