Wyre Scouting Jamboree

In March 2018, on a snowy bleak weekend camp, Scouts and Explorers from across Wyre descended on Littledale to participate in a gruelling weekend of challenges and presentations to determine who would be lucky enough to attend The World Scout Jamboree at Bechtel Summit West Virginia USA. The successful candidates were eventually named as George Brightman (16) from Cleveleys, Charlotte Kennedy (15) from Fleetwood, and Erin Byrne (14) from Garstang.

 These 3 will be travelling with the rest of the West Lancashire delegation to the US in July 2019 and will spend 3 weeks in the States, culminating in a week long world wide Jamboree of Scouting, hosted by the Scouts BSA, The Association of Scouts of Mexico and Scouts Canada.

The week will be a life changing mix of experiences, they will be able to meet and network with Scouts from across the globe, making friendships and memories that they will keep for a lifetime. There will be challenges of all sorts, opportunities for personal growth, learning first hand about the lives and experiences of young people they would never otherwise have had the opportunity of meeting.

 Before that, however, the 3 delegates have to attend rigorous training camps ensuring they will be the very best ambassadors for our area that they can be, they will feed back to the communities they come from about the learning they achieve and they will be responsible for raising  a daunting £7,500 between them to enable them to go.  To this end, they are working on a hugely varied calendar of events to help raise their funds, you WILL be hearing more from them in the next year and a half, and I sincerely hope you’ll consider helping them out, whether that’s by visiting a stall they run, sponsoring them on a larger challenge or simply chucking some change in a bucket if you see them packing bags at a local supermarket.
