WW2 Tupton Graves Restoration

Donation protected
The 15th March 2021 marks the 80th anniversary of the World War II bombing of Tupton.

During this raid 11 villagers were killed, 2 of them very young children.

In the days after this event, the deceased were buried in 6 graves, 2 being at Danesmoor Cemetery and 4 at North Wingfield Churchyard.

However, 2 of the families could not afford to pay for a headstone and to this day, the graves remain unmarked. Of the other 4 graves, 3 have fallen into a state of disrepair and are in a very poor condition.

Today, when many Tupton villagers, are made aware of this situation there is the opinion that this situation should be remedied.

The ‘Lest We Forget’ project, supported by The Tupton Community Group and Tupton Parish Council, plan to repair the 3 graves and pay for 2 headstones for the unmarked graves.

As part of this aim, we are including a donation page via ‘Go Fund Me’, so as everyone in the village has the opportunity to make a donation and be part of the project.

At the annual Tupton Remembrance Service, we always say that we will remember the sacrifice of our fallen, including for those who were killed in the Tupton bombing. This project aims to do this.

Many Thanks for all your support
