Help fund TOWNSEND'S LAST NIGHT

Hello... My name is Rhys Scarabosio and I'm raising money for my senior BFA thesis film (what an unnecessary mouthful), TOWNSEND'S LAST NIGHT, a film I've spent the last 4 months writing and preparing for. It's the largest undertaking of filmmaking I've stepped into in my short 21 years of life and I could not be more excited to get it going. Before I can start putting any of it into action, I'm going to need some help... on the financial front. But why should you help me? Let's start with a little synopsis for the film.

 

Across one night we follow Cooper Townsend, a dooming community college drop-out with pipe dreams of becoming a musician, as he finds his way home after being fired from work. Getting lost, running into a past love, estranged friends from high school, and a mythic breakdancer from middle school, Cooper must get home and break out of his life’s self-inflicted stagnation before the world, and cigarettes, eat him alive.

 

Who is Cooper and why should I care about his story? Cooper is a character I wrote inspired by many kids I know and representative of an issue currently endemic to our nation. The similarity, the issue that has led Cooper and so many other kids like him down a path of discouragement, stagnation, and, therefore, nihilism is the unrealistic pressures of college acceptance. The slippery slope kids find themselves sliding down once graduating from the constricting pressures of high school to GET INTO A GOOD COLLEGE without a clear vision of their future is one that gets steeper every year. Cooper is a kid who was blindly pressured into today's mechanical formula for college acceptance and lost, for reasons which the film will unpack. As someone who was close to falling victim to this pressure and observant of its effect on many people close to me, with TOWNSEND'S LAST NIGHT I hope to offer a new optimism to this dilemma.

I'm asking for $1,200, which probably seems like a lot for a college student film, but I promise when I say it will go a long way with how much we're trying to accomplish. Location permits, food for cast and crew, equipment rentals, props, and costumes are the most pressing assets to start shooting at the moment.

 

Though this film is hoping to touch on some considerably "serious" topics, more than anything, I'm hoping to make something people can have fun with, connect to, laugh with, and cry at. If I can achieve any of these things, I will be happy. So, what do you say?
