Wumy Ewebiyi (Nee Awoniyi) fights Breast Cancer

Spende geschützt
Hi, my name is Ejiro Onome, and myself with a few friends, we are trying to raise funds for our sistafren's fight against Breast Cancer!

On 13th March, our friend Wumy went in for a routine hospital visit, due to a missed period, thinking she was pregnant (we want a sister for her boys).. This check led to a series of tests and revealed she has Stage II Breast Cancer in her Left Breast and Lymph Nodes. She was advised to start treatment immediately to remove the tumor.

What is Stage II Breast Cancer?
According to MD Anderson,
“Stage 0 is for abnormal cells that haven’t spread and are not considered cancer, though they could become cancerous in the future. This stage is also called “in-situ.”
* Stage I through Stage III are for cancers that haven’t spread beyond the primary tumor site or have only spread to nearby tissue. The higher the stage number, the larger the tumor and the more it has spread.
* Stage IV cancer has spread to distant areas of the body.” Click to know more

Wumy was diagnosed with Stage 2B . This means that the cancer is in her breast and/or in the nearby lymph nodes. It is an earlier stage breast cancer.

What is Stage 2B?
For Wumy this means that the tumour is larger than 2cm but not larger than 5cm and the cancer has spread to 1 to 3 lymph nodes in the armpit or to the lymph nodes near the breastbone.

According to Susan G.Komen,
“Overall survival rates vary by breast cancer stage. People diagnosed with stage 0, I or II breast cancers tend to have higher overall survival rates than people diagnosed with stage III or IV breast cancers.”
However, overall survival rates are averages and vary depending on a person’s diagnosis and treatment.

Wumy's Treatment
Step 1. Chemotherapy Or hormone therapy before surgery to shrink the cancer down and make it possible to have breast conserving surgery.

Step 2. Surgery to remove the cancerous area with a border of normal breast tissue.
Step 3. Radiotherapy to the rest of the breast.
