Please help me beat Cancer
Spende geschützt
Hello, I am Ellis. I am a 39 year old that was diagnosed with Stage 3 Melanoma in November of 2023. I have since had 4 surgical procedures and started oral chemotherapy. My prognosis is still yet to be determined, but hopefully we will have some confident data soon.
I had never really thought about what I would do if I was diagnosed with Cancer. I knew there was a chance it would happen as it is quite prevelant in my family. But I didn't think about the ins and outs, never considered what it would take to beat a disease that, up until recent history, killed nearly everyone who got it.
Turns out, it takes more than one person can handle. It takes a literal army. The countless medical personnel, family, friends, neighbors, coworkers even absolute strangers. It takes so much more than you could ever anticipate, there is no amount of preparation that can ready someone for this. It takes so much strength to keep taking the medicines that make your eyes burn, and mouth sour. It takes courage, perseverance, fortitude, positivity.
I am grateful to be showered with love from all across the globe. I have supporters whom I've never met who I talk with, take advice from, trade stories with. I have family at my side, giving me the reasons to see it through. I couldn't be more happy with each and every person who's got my back.
But it's hard. I am not alone, I have my own family to support. I have a son, Zander and my partner, Danielle. I have two amazing dogs, Phoenix and Rocky. We all moved here to La Crosse, WI so I could live my dream, to help return two great paddlewheelers to service, then help operate them in their new home. I worked hard to achieve my goal, but my cancer diagnosis put an abrupt stop to all that. After months of recovery, I recently returned to Olive Garden, where I wait tables. I love my job, and boy do I work hard. Customers love my service style, and I enjoy providing a great experience. I generally do quite well making tips. Unfortunately chemo has really slowed me down.
Even worse, recently (first week of March) I was met with a new hurdle to overcome. A series of circumstances led to my liver enzymes skyrocketing, nearly shutting my liver down. Led to me having to go to the hospital, where they determined my chemo drugs needed to be paused. I have to work on improving my liver health, and make some changes to give my liver the best chance possible.
One of the changes is to cut work down drastically, and not work double shifts. Anyone who's worked tables knows there are three days a week you want to work doubles. This means I will lose half my monthly income, missing these 12 shifts. This is devastating, as I rely on every penny I earn (working doubles) to make ends meet.
So, here I am, shooting my shot. I could use some help. A little or a lot, I'm not picky, anything and everything helps. I just want to keep from getting into a deep financial rut, I don't need any extra distractions while I am navigating the winding road to a cancer free life.
