As some of you may know, Dad was recently diagnosed with lung cancer.
Earlier in December, he was experiencing pain in his leg and after going to the doctors, it was determined that he had a blood clot in his leg. He was kept in the hospital for closer monitoring as the blood clot had also traveled to his lungs and he was suffering from pneumonia. At the time we were worried that he would not be home for Christmas, but after a couple of days, he was home to rest, and back at work before we knew it.
Not long after, he returned to the hospital as the pneumonia was not going away. He was again admitted to the hospital and he was monitored for low oxygen levels. Additional tests were done and after being tested for tuberculosis with negative results, cancer testing was brought into the conversation. His name was put in for a bed in Bangor, but after a few days and being 6th on the list for a bed, Portland then became an option and he was registered for a bed there. The following day, he was transported to Maine Medical Center and the next morning had a biopsy done. The doctor cleared him for discharge that same day and he was anxious to come home and be with his family.
We then waited for the results.
In less than a week, we received a phone call confirming our worst fear…cancer. Dad had been diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer and they found a tumor growing in his airway. He was to meet with the oncologist and was scheduled for the following week.
Today was his appointment with the doctor, who told us the cancer appears to be stage 4, and ordered a CT Pet Scan and an MRI to know more and if the cancer has spread/is spreading. We were told she cannot cure him, but they will do what they can to help. Surgery is out of the question for his tumor, and he will be starting chemotherapy within the next 2-3 weeks and immunotherapy. After the doctor gave him this information, his response was “Let’s get it done.”
He has been incredibly positive the past few months and he is strong. He is a fighter and we believe in him and pray to God for health and recovery. We know that he will fight this, for those he cherishes most, his family.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated as he will be out of work for an unknown amount of time and be having numerous appointments and treatments that will require traveling. If you do not want to donate via this page due to donation fees, please reach out to me directly and can accept different methods.
I thank everyone one of you, for your donations, thoughts and prayers, kind words, etc.. This will be a journey for our family, and we will fight this battle together. Again, thank you to all.
