World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024

As the World Design Capital of 2024, San Diego and Tijuana will bring together civic leaders, activists, and multidisciplinary designers to address our region’s most pressing challenges by design. The year-long series of public events, conferences, policy summits, workshops, and more will accelerate the exchange of ideas and create opportunity for collaboration among our diverse communities. By leveraging design as both a perspective and change agent, we can transform policy, education, infrastructure, and culture across our region.

A successful World Design Capital will extend the ecosystems, cultures, and mindsets of design throughout our governments, places, industries, and infrastructures. Design for people and planet can help us accelerate decarbonization, advance learning for everyone in the region, address needs for strong social infrastructure and demands for equity and inclusion, and preserve and advance the cultures that make us unique.

The initiative will not only reach the 7+ million people who call this region home, but aspires to touch millions of others across the world through in-person and virtual events, publications, exchanges, tools, and experiences.
