Working High Schooler's Car Fund

I have never started a gofundme for any reason, but I cannot stand by and watch this wonderful family suffer without asking for help any longer.

Long story short - my wife and I (and a few others) are helping a young man with rides to school, work, church, and home, because his family cannot afford to buy him a car, and there is no mass transit here in Cedar Park. He is paying his own way for his rugby training, for his church mission, and his parents are buried in mechanics' liens on his non-running car and in medical costs for his hospital-bound sister. They owe $2000 on a non-running car, the $5000 will pay that off and leave $3000 for a running vehicle. I am looking to raise money to buy him a car so he can get himself to and from his destinations. He is a 4.0 student, he is a father figure to his 6 year old brother while his dad works overtime construction, and he will be forever grateful for this charity!

This very hard-working, dignified, loving, modest family (mother, father, 18 year old daughter, 16 year old son, 6 year old son) has fallen on tragically hard times both financially and physically and truly needs our community's help. The 18 year old daughter has battled a myriad of health issues since birth which has made her fight for life a daily struggle. She is currently missing her senior year as she lives in a hospital while doctors all over Texas pioneer surgeries to help her. I will spare all the details on her condition, just please believe the situation is dire, its painful for her and her family, they didn't even get to spend Christmas together as mom and daughter were in Houston in quarantine in the hospital while dad and son picked up extra work shifts to help pay bills. The father works more than full time at a construction job, mom also works at a preschool caring for other people's children, they live in a modest apartment and drive worn vehicles. They have very little family close to assist, and I am currently giving the two sons rides to school and work while mom and dad split time between their employment and their hospitalized daughter. Many people in our church and local community have rallied to help the ailing daughter in whatever way they can, and I am now asking for help for the 16 year old son. This family has never once asked for money, but in this case, they can use the help.

John (anonymized) is a straight-A student at a local charter school, he plays on their #3 nationally ranked rugby team, he attends Bible study at 5:45 AM every weekday with his 6 year old brother in tow, and he works as many hours as he can at a local Chic-Fil-A. He is saving his own money to pay for a mission and to fund his own rugby training camps. After he gets a ride to his 5:45 AM Bible study, he hitches a ride to my house, where he and his younger brother wait patiently for my 3 children to get ready for school. We then drive them to school and occassionally give them rides back home to their apartment or to work or other friends houses. He desperately needs a car.

Part of the trouble is that they have a third car that is not running that they owe $2000 in various fees on, and they want to be rid of it in order to get a better third vehicle, but they cannot afford to pay those bills off. John needs a car and would never ask for money to help pay off the bills. The $5000 goal would pay off the $2000 owed on the non-running vehicle to release the title, then I will help them sell it for what little amount (under $1000) they can get for it. The remaining $3000, plus the few hundred from the sale of the current vehicle, plus John's modest savings from his job would go to get him a reliable, inexpensive modest vehicle for around $2000 (plus registration, title, any minor repairs, fees, etc) that would allow him to drive himself and his brother to seminary, to school, to practive, and to work. I will personally be helping them sell the current vehicle and purchase a different one.

This will truly change a family's life that needs some love! I will personally see to it that every dollar is spent responsibly and goes to John's vehicle fund. This is the epitome of charity - helping somebody who is doing everything within their power to help themselves, who is honest, chaste, virtuous, kind, and grateful for any help they receive, but who never asks much of anybody else. You can truly feel good about this one, I promise!

Again, for the sake of the family's dignity, I have anonymized names and not shared any pictures. If there is a way for me to report back with the outcome, I will certainly do it!
