Wisconsin Veterans for a Clean Museum

PLEASE NOTE:  While Scott Kruchten is listed as the beneficiary of this GoFundMe campaign, the funds raised are benefiting the entire effort.  Scott is our team's focal point for ordering and arranging the supplies, and the system forces us to designate a person by name to ensure we are able to utilize the funds so graciously being donated.

In June of 2020, the outside of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum in Madison was significantly defaced.  While the offensive graffiti was cleaned up in August, vandals have recently begun targeting the museum every day.  The graffiti painted continues to promote divisive messaging.  The city of Madison, well informed of what is happening, has decided not to stop these daily crimes from happening.

A group of Madison-area Veterans, their families, and other concerned citizens have committed to painting over the graffiti every day.  We recognize that this is the best way to balance maintaining the honor of the museum, make up for the abdication of responsibility by city & state officials, and not take the bait of the vandals who are purposefully trying to incite violence.   We will be measured and resolute in our actions and will continue to choose not to add to the escalation actions that others are doing.

We do not know how long this effort will be required, but we are committed to seeing it through however long it takes.  In order to do that, we are asking for monetary assistance to help provide for the painting supplies that it will take to ensure we can continue to cover the graffiti in an expeditious and respectful manner.  We will also use funds to make sure that the volunteers who show up every morning to help are fed and hydrated.  When more rational thinking and actions return and it is no longer necessary to do this, we will donate any remaining funds equally among two Wisconsin Veteran-related charities (TBD), as well as 100 Black Men of Madison.

We recognize that the recent social unrest that seemed to be the impetus for this rash of vandalism is a critical challenge that demands evolution in how we treat one another.  We stand in unity with all people in our society and we look forward to the day where nobody in our country feels marginalized, and when the systems that have kept some people in our country in perpetual disadvantage are completely dismantled.

We all have a part in building and improving the communities that we live in together.  And those communities include those who have served this country in the military.  The Veterans Museum is not some random building.  It is the home to many artifacts and exhibits that have one thing in common - honoring the many contributions that Veterans have provided and the sacrifices they have made to protect the freedoms we are so lucky to have.  The museum is an important part of both the Veteran and Wisconsin communities.

Any amount that you can provide will be sincerely appreciated.  Thank you very much.
