Salem immigrated this summer to America from Ethiopia with her 3-year-old son, Daggum, after waiting 7 years to get the legal paperwork in order for her visa. This is a family that’s really important to us. Their family has helped us tremendously in the formation of our family through helping us with our adoptions of Tia, Garrett, and Lemi.
Salem now has her permanent residence card (green card). She and Daggum are living with us as we help them navigate the process of getting their feet on the ground in America. In the last 2 months, Salem has gotten her US Driver’s License, applied for multiple jobs, and has secured a 4-month contract job at BASF in southwest Charlotte.
We are currently working on childcare options and reliable transportation, which brings us to this page. Salem’s job starts on Monday, October 15th. She has saved $2,000 to put towards a car. We want to make that $2,000 go further, so we are helping to secure a loan for her to purchase a 2013 Honda Civic with only 46,000 miles on it. This car will be a huge step for Salem in her journey to independence for her and Daggum.
All of this money donated here will go towards paying for the car - the purchase price is $9,000, plus taxes and fees. Salem has $2,000 that she’s going to put towards the total, so we’ve set our goal at $8,000 in order to cover all costs.
