Wheelchair Van for Weezie, Rick Brown’s Mom
GO TEAM WEEZIE !
This is Weezies story, as we like to say.... “Weezies World”
Our goal is to try and have her mobile and get our Weezie back to enjoying her very social life She loves so much!
For Mom
A second time in my life I spent my birthday in a hospital. The First time is when I was born. This time I was with “my favorite” mother in law, my Weezie. It was one of the most special birthdays I could have. You see, on August 16 Rick Brown my husband found his mom on the floor that Sunday morning. Who knows how long she had been laying there. Even She doesn’t know. In fact she didn’t know or remember anything. We thought she fell and clunked her head. But She had a stoke and a massive-brain bleed. She was unconscious and barely breathing. The call went out to 911 and the y we’re talking me through CPR and what to do to keep her alive.
Luckily we found her in time and rushed her to the best hospital close to home bayonet point regional medical in Hudson. Within hours on that Sunday afternoon she was having brain surgery with a team of great neuro doctors. We were told she may not make it during the surgery, but she did. We were told she may never speak, but she now talks. They said she may not make it through the night. We prayed hard called her family and friends. We all prayed, and she was alive the next day. She made it through the night! If she gets through the Next few nights, she may never be the same and She will probably Need a nursing home for long term care. She spent 3 weeks there in ICU and we can’t say enough on how much they saved her life! Every nurse in ICU took such great care Of her and they all wanted her to SURVIVE ! They even prayed for her. Every day she was a little better. From there we transferred her to Brooks Rehabilitation hospital in Jacksonville. She was there exactly 3 and a half weeks. Brooks only takes the most extreme medical cases and she was extreme they said. She went there on a stretcher with a feeding tube, a traik to help breath and only able to give a thumbs up. She needed to relearn EVERYTHING else! She has been working so hard every day since then. I’ve been with her and this lady is kicking some ass ! Brooks was truly the best decision we made because they worked with her so much. Today she can talk again, she is swallowing and eating foods, her feeding tube removed, her traik is removed, she can feed and wash herself and is dressing up and looking pretty ! She is slowly getting stronger moving limbs and functions that just wouldn’t work a few weeks ago. She is remembering things more And is working her brain because the injury caused memory and function loss. Weezie has her sense of humor back. Everyone here loves her voice and the looks she gives with her smiles.
Louise “Weezie” Brown is so strong and so alive and so funny and we are all so amazed, that she is here to be able to relearn and do this all again ! We’re so glad to be getting our Weezie back ! Her nurses, her doctors and her physical therapists all say she is that once in a life time chance Miracle survivor to the massive brain bleed she had! Most people don’t survive what she had, let alone do so great in Her recovery. She is home and doing more each day and with me now as her full time caregiver I’ve had to leave the job that I loved so much but Weezie needs me to help her more.
Weezie can’t walk at all, only a few steps to pivot From a bed to chair or back to bed. But with some help of a few people we were able to manage getting her out to vote and get an ice cream. It is for that reason, we are in search of a van that will Accommodate a wheelchair lift.
I know a Large part of Her recovery Is the POWER of many PRAYERS and her will to live! And living has to be done outside of a bedroom and her house ! That one trip for a Ice cream cone and feeling so great full to be able to vote made us realize how much she needs to be a part of the world outside! Having a way that I could take her for her Many doctor appointments, hair cuts or that next ice cream cone is HUGE, to anyone’s recovery and the sense of feeling normal again, definitely helps her healing.
My husband Rick and I have always helped kids, family, strangers, and our community and it’s so not us to Ever ask for help ourselve’s, but without trying I won’t be able to fund her Van without help.
Medical bills, building a wheelchair ramp, new front doors inside doors and saving up for a new walk-in shower have put us in the thousands and we just can’t find the extra cash for a Van.
would you help me in raising funds, or reposting so my post is seen by others.
thank you for reading Weezies Story, a will to live ,
GO TEAM WEEZIE !!!
We are thankful, great full, and We love you so much, RIck and Karen Brown
