Puerto Rico Rises

One of my closest buddies and his father approached me a few days ago with the plan to take 4-5 guys down to Puerto Rico in the midst of the devastation created by Hurricane Maria. We are leaving 11/19 and returning the night of 11/21.
There is a town about an hour outside of San Juan called Vega Baja. In working closely with a few churches and synagogues in my local county in NJ, we were able to get in contact with the mayor of the town who was able to tell us exactly what they need. Our team leader, Freddie, was able to talk to people closely with the mayor of the town, and they need clean water filtration, medical supplies, and tools to help clear the trees and debris off the roadways and homes. We have collected donations for all of those supplies, but the biggest expense we found is the transportation of these things across the island.
We are bringing ~ 200 units of these filtration devices – these devices provide 12 gallons of water per day per year for a family of 5. They take no power or running water, rather, individuals pour any available water into the unit for pure water. The filter removes bacteria and viruses. We sent 202 units last week.
The goal will specifically go towards the following:
- Baggage and transportation costs to bring these supplies down to the Island
- Additional filtration units and medical supplies as we surpass our goal
We’ve received a lot of donations for the filtration devices and medical supplies for this initial trip. We will be bringing down our own personal tools and saws to help with the manual labor.
Every dollar that surpasses this goal will go towards purchasing more of these filtration devices.
It would mean a great deal to me and my team if you were able to contribute towards this initial phase trip. I PROMISE you that as a direct result of your contribution, you will allow us to distribute to hundreds of families, not to mention allow us to plan for multiple trips over the next year, but in doing so as efficiently and effectively as possible.
