I’m raising this for Wes and my family because we are still trying to climb out of debt that built up when I lost my job during COVID. We did everything we could to survive at the time, including relying on a credit card and a personal loan while I delivered pizza and drove for Uber and Lyft to bring in whatever income I could.

Then I had an emergency appendectomy, and that added medical debt on top of everything else. Student loans are part of the burden too. Even though I later earned a tech certification and have been working a corporate tech job for about three years now, life just keeps getting more expensive, and it has been hard to truly catch up.

About a year and a half ago, I also started a TikTok to try to pay off this debt through monetization. It helped us make real progress, and we were able to pay off about $13,000 of the original $33,000 we owed, but that source of help has now dried up.

Day to day, this has meant tightening our budget more and more and falling a little behind on some bills. What hurts most is seeing our kids miss out on opportunities because we simply cannot afford them right now. I’m even considering taking on a second part-time job just to keep up.
