Emily's Maternal Medical Expenses

Hello friends!  I'm starting a crowd-funding campaign for my good friend, Emily Borden (Creasy).  The first time I asked her if I could do this, she said absolutely not because she didn't want anyone to think she was being selfish.  Those of us who know Emily know that "selfish" is the LAST word we could use to describe her.  Please consider giving any amount with which you are comfortable so that Emily and Matt can fulfill their dreams of having a child of their own.   If you like, read on for more information regarding procedure prices, insurance coverage, and lovely things that Emily does to give back to her family and friends.   If you already know you want to help and don't need to read any further, that's fine, too.   The medical costs are well over $8000.   I've told Emily that I have no idea how much we'll raise, but every little bit helps.  Emily is so generous to others, and she inspires others to be more generous to people beyond her circle.  She's the poster child for paying it forward!!!   Hopefully we can all give back to her and help her to make this dream come true.   Thank you.

On a personal note, I know Emily does nice things for the shelter in Florence, and she and Matt even work at the shelter at Christmas.  When I called her last night to ask her again whether we could do this for her, she was babysitting a four-year-old whose parents are homeless.  They were playing Yahtzee.  She teaches a class of special kids at Sunday school at her church.  She babysits for friends at a moment's notice, and often for free!  She told me the other day that she was washing some clothes for a man who was living out of his car and that he needed new shoes.  I happened to be in a situation where I could afford to send him some, so I bought two pairs on Amazon and shipped them to her.  She gave them to him.  He was shocked that they were new.  I would never have known about this man if Emily hadn't mentioned him in our conversation.  We're all so busy all of the time.  Emily takes time to help others, though.  I usually do not find the time.  She helps me to help others by inspiring me with her generosity and love.  She was reluctant to accept help from all of us because she and Matt are nervous that people will think they are selfish, irresponsible, or not providing for each other.  I reminded her that she doesn't judge the people she helps, and we won't judge her, either.

It's very interesting that insurance covers things like a vasectomy or tubal ligation and will even cover a reversal of those if you change your mind later, but it does not cover assisted reproductive technology. Insurance will pay for Emily's blood work and ultrasounds but will not pay for any of the medications, egg retrieval,  the insemination, the storage fees of keeping the embryos until they can be implanted, or the implantation itself.
