Our friend Ryan Pickering speaks up for those left behind, neglected, and forgotten in the world. He teaches social justice and devotes all of his time to students at Allegheny College. Within SPSSI, Ryan is always the first to remind us of the lived experiences of low-income, working-class, hungry, and housing-insecure students.
Ryan was recently diagnosed with salivary-gland cancer that will require surgery to remove and reconstruct his jaw, many weeks in the hospital, and many more weeks in a rehabilitation center. With the co-pays, medical bills, kitty-sitter needs, and travel and time off from work for his husband Michael, we are hoping to alleviate some of the financial strain. And Ryan would never ask you for help himself.
