SAFE HOUSE - DOMESTIC & SEXUAL VIOLENCE SURVIVORS

THE NEED
Increased need, expanded programs and services, longer stays, and more survivors seeking refuge all mean OUR CURRENT SAFE HOUSE IS NO LONGER ABLE TO BEST FULFILL OUR MISSION. Crucially, we have the chance – RIGHT NOW – to address the issue of a much-needed NEW SAFE HOUSE.

Since 1978 Safe+Sound Somerset has been the organization survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence have turned to for protection, support and services to help them break free of abuse and begin to heal and thrive. For 40 of those 45 years, Safe+Sound has operated an emergency safe house in the same location, providing crucial shelter for survivors at what is often the most perilous time – when they make the decision to leave dangerous living situations, often with nowhere else to go, and many times bringing vulnerable children with them.

THE TIME
Safe+Sound Somerset and the survivors we serve are facing a safe house emergency. We have a unique one-time opportunity to move forward with plans for a new safe house – but must take action now! When the government's COVID-19 emergency declaration ends on May 11th, a new set of challenges and opportunities begins.

Since 2019, nights of care in our safe house have increased 295%, including an overflow of survivors needing emergency shelter. A government program that allowed us to place 51 survivors and 59 of their children in offsite housing during the pandemic will also end on May 11th leaving a huge gap to fill.

THE PLACE
SAFE is the first word in our name, and our promise to every survivor we serve. Our emergency safe house offers a secure and welcoming environment to begin the healing journey, and Safe+Sound Somerset provides survivors and their children with basic needs including food, clothing and toiletries along with wide-ranging programs while living at the safe house.

THE ACTION
In order to continue serving survivors with a secure emergency safe house for many years to come, Safe+Sound Somerset must raise $100,000.

The money will allow us to partner with leading advocates and experts to secure further funding, including time-limited government grants, identify a site or sites for a new safe house that meets current and future needs, and deal with the reality of new post-pandemic emergency challenges.

Your gift will build lives and communities free from violence and abuse. Please help us – TODAY – with a donation to set the foundation for an emergency safe house that will save lives and be the first step on a journey to hope and healing.
