Water Irrigation System for Tallapampa Peru!

Donation protected

When I left Tallapampa, a small, rural, coffee-growing community in the Peruvian Andes, I was unsure of how to be worthy of the gifts and teachings the people had given me. Now, I'm doing something concrete to give back and create reciprocity.

Tallapampa is part of the Cafe Femenino program, an organization I worked with last summer that empowers women coffee farmers to improve their own lives and communities.

As part of my work with Cafe Femenino, I got to visit several communities and Tallapampa, in particular, really touched my heart. They showed me such welcoming and kindness, shared culture and time, and really made me understand the power and beauty of moving through life considering the global community your own.

Water scarcity is becoming an increasing issue in the community due to factors like climate change, and this is impacting their livelihoods - to grow high quality coffee that will bring back meaningful revenue, low water stress on the coffee plants is essential. So, Tallapampa requested a grant to fund the materials to build a water irrigation system in the community.

Every penny of this fundraiser will go to the Cafe Femenino Foundation (CFF), the registered charity that oversees the provision of grants to Cafe Femenino communities, to fund Tallapampa's Grant. I am handling that personally with direct communication with CFF as we were unable to make it work through GoFundMe's registered charity fundraiser option. I'm hoping to fundraise for a significant portion of the grant within about 6 months and cover the rest myself.

It would mean the world to me if you contributed  - every bit counts! I know fundraising for this will be the greatest thing I have ever done in my life; but more than that, it would make a world of difference for Tallapampa and support the community in lifting themselves up.

A little more about Cafe Femenino:

Through the Cafe Feminino program, women are directly given the earnings from the coffee they produce, giving them economic independence which they often use to invest in their farms and their communities. The communities also form women's groups so the women can discuss issues together in an understanding space, and create proposals for projects to improve their lives and communities. Cafe Femenino has allowed communities access to much better coffee processing technology to remain competitive in the market as well as build schools, and roads to improve the overall quality of life of the community.
