Water for Kagbasia
We believe education is the key to unlocking a brighter future for our children. However, without clean water and adequate sanitation facilities, kids around the world are forced to choose between learning or surviving. In the small village of Kagbasia, Sierra Leone, that choice is heartbreakingly real.
That's why we're raising funds to build WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) facilities for this acutely affected community. This simple, life-changing infrastructure will protect them from preventable disease and allow the children to attend school regularly, giving every child in the village the chance to learn in comfort, safety and dignity.
Why Kagbasia?
In May 2024, Emma and James travelled to Kagbasia to see a newly built school by Street Child. Despite the fantastic work that had been done in developing the educational facilities, one thing stood out starkly - there was no access to clean water.
No taps. No toilets. No safe drinking water.
And yet, despite all this, the village welcomed us with overwhelming warmth, humility and generosity. Needless to say, it left a permanent mark on us. We felt a deep sense of responsibility toward the community and knew that we wanted to try and support them in whatever way we could.
So, the Water for Kagbasia Project was born.
What Your Donation Will Do:
- Build clean water access points for the school and community
- Construct a well with a hand pump for clean drinking water
- Construct hygienic toilet and hand-washing facilities with gender-sensitive latrines for boys and girls.
- Support girls’ school attendance through proper menstrual sanitation
- Reduce waterborne illness and preventable health issues
- Help children stay in school, thrive and dream bigger
Every drop matters.
The total cost is 11.000 EUR. We have already raised 10,000 EUR, but we are looking to raise the remaining costs in close collaboration with Street Child Nederlands. If we are able to exceed our goal, all the remaining funds will go directly towards providing further support for the school, in the form of extra supplies and toys.
Whether you donate €5 or €500, your generosity flows directly into something lasting. Help us lay the foundation for a stronger, healthier Kagbasia that will last for generations to come.
With gratitude,
Emma & James
