The Washington Township Police Department is in the beginning stages of starting our drug K-9 program. Our department is no different than what is going on nationally dealing with the drug problem. We are a small department with limited resources. With the Indian Lake elementary, middle and high school all in our jurisdiction, it is imperative that we continue our efforts in eliminating drugs in our schools and community. Our department is a community policing oriented agency. We are active in the battle to keep the drug problem out of our community. As you probably know, a drug K-9 is a very effective tool in trying to accomplish this goal. We are seeing every day, the erosion of our community because of the drug problem. Our tax base does not support the initial cost of starting our K-9 program. If successful, we would be able to sustain our K-9 program once it is established. We just need your help getting us started.
The K-9 will be purchased from Von der Haus Gill German Shepherds Inc in Wapakoneta, Ohio. They are an established K-9 facility that have placed many K-9’s with agencies across the country. Their K-9s are purchased in Germany or Czechoslovakia and then imported into the United States. The K-9 we plan to purchase will be a dual-purpose German Shepherd. The K-9 will be certified in the detection of illegal drugs, apprehension of suspects and tracking.
We would appreciate any support you can provide in getting this very important program established. All contributions are tax deductible. Thank you in advance for your support. Any questions could be directed to Chief Rick Core or our anticipated K-9 handler Officer Michael Thompson at 937-686-8024.
