Warrane's Alice Springs Workcamp

We are a group of residents from Warrane College UNSW who are heading to Haasts Blaff, 230km west of Alice Springs for a Service Project between the 13th to 23th May.

Haasts Bluff is home to the Walk a While Foundation Creative Technologies Centre, which provides tools and skills in the creative arts to equip Indigenous people to find meaningful employment. The Creative Technologies Centre is in need of some repairs and maintenance and to help with this, our group of 21 volunteers will be working with the local Indigenous community to help refurbish the Creative Technology Centre and assist with waste reduction in the area.

Our group has set up this fundraising page to raise money for this project. Each volunteer contributes a substantial amount of their own money towards the project, but we are still well short of covering our expenses. For this refurbishment to commence we will need funds to go towards floor sanders, oil and varnishes, extractor fans, curtains, bathroom supplies, tools and more. We also hope to purchase a six-burner free standing oven and 300 litre chest freezer for the Creative Technologies Centre to provide a long term increase in the Centre’s capacity to host visitors and tours in the area.

We see this project as mutually helpful for both communities and we know the opportunity to immerse ourselves in an Indigenous community will be invaluable for our own cultural education and personal development.
