If you're not familiar with Gompers Elementary-Middle School - it's a Detroit based school with more than 80% of the student population either disabled or economically disadvantaged.
Our annual coat drive was inspired by the 2011 Adopt a School Challenge. The mission of the program is to create robust partnerships between schools and area businesses and community organizations to improve academic achievement in Detroit Public Schools. Over the past several years the Marshall Family, Aluminum Supply Company and Marshall Sales in Detroit have donated hundreds of jackets and winter accessories and other school supplies to Gompers. Now with the elementary and middle schools combined, the student population has soared to over 800, so we're asking for your help. As the saying goes, "A lot of drops fill the bucket." Monetary donations of any size would be helpful and greatly appreciated. 100% of the proceeds go directly to this coats for kids program.
Despite economic challenges, at Gompers Elementary, great things are happening! As one of Detroit Public Schools top learning institutions for elementary students, Samuel Gompers Elementary School continues to produce some of the most well prepared students who are excited to learn and become productive members of society.
Please help us with the final push by donating to this worthy cause before October 31st. If you'd rather do the shopping yourself, we're accepting new jackets, sizes 8-18, girls or boys and any accessories (hats, scarves, mittens, gloves). Donations can be dropped off or shipped directly to Marshall Sales, 14359 Meyers Road, Detroit, Michigan 48227 attn: Elizabeth Larke by 10/31/2014.
