Walk for CORES Queensland - Ayr to Townsville
Donation protected
CORES are a non for profit, non government community organisation. CORES is a community based program which educates members of a local community on how to intervene when they encounter a person they believe may be suicidal. Suicide and self-harm continue to be major issues in rural communities throughout Australia. CORES educates community members how to be proactive to prevent somebody taking their life, or harming themselves. My name is Janai Giddy and I am passionate about all areas of health but especially around self care. I have seen the incredible work Ross Romeo and the team of volunteers of CORES Queensland do in our community and wanted to find a way to raise funds for them to continue and to grow the important work they do. I have taken part in the free one day suicide intervention course, not only do you learn ways to help those around you but also understand your mental health a little better. On the 11th August at 7am I will be leaving Ayr, walking 24hrs (or however long it takes) through to Townsville. There will be 9 people joining me along the way some for a few kms some the entire way. All money raised will go to CORES Queensland. I am hoping this gets people talking more about mental health, to ask for help and to have more conversations. Thank you
