Hi my name is Stephen Kelly and I want to tell you a little story many years ago my dad at the young age of 54 died from that horrible disease known as the big C leaving my mam to bring up a young family of 8 on her own and what a brilliant job she did. Roll on the years to 2016 and my brother Kevin Kelly manager of the GAA Club in Ruislip London was diagnosed with a Grade 4 Glioblastoma Brain Tumour he found out on the day of his 54th birthday, so I have decided to do my bit to help kick this horrible disease over the end line, as my mother the great lady that she is will celebrate her 90th birthday on the 27th of July I have decided to walk home to celebrate it with her. I will walk from Cork to Clara arriving in Clara to celebrate her 90th birthday and hopefully raise some money along the way for hospitals in Cork Tullamore and the UK who looked after my brother Kevin so well and other various cancer charities. I am now asking for your support to make this happen I am especially appealing to GAA clubs both here and in the UK and further a field to sponsor me on this walk I am sure at some stage clubs have brought juvenile teams or even senior teams to Ruislip and I can guarantee that you were well looked after by my brother Kevin. The total distance from Cork to Clara is a 217km and I am asking all gaa clubs to sponsor me €1 per km.
To the general public any donation would be greatly appreciated collection boxes will be placed in pubs and shops sponsor cards will be available shortly there will a collection buckets along the route as we walk through the towns and sure if you feel like walking a few miles with me you will be very welcome to join us.
