At 5:30 am on Thursday morning, October 5th, lightning struck their home, initiating a fire in the attic that swiftly consumed their entire house. Aldo and Asher, were woken up by the terrifying incident, with only moments to gather a few possessions before the flames and smoke overwhelmed the house. Asher managed to rescue their dogs, Chewie and Max, and fortunately, the family emerged physically unscathed.
It took more than 3 hours before the fire was extinguished. The house - and many precious memories - have been reduced to ash. This is the house that Asher and Maggie came home to from the hospital when they were born. It has been home to the family for 25 years. Milestones were celebrated there, dreams nurtured. We face the challenge of rebuilding the house and our lives - literally from the ground up.
While they are lucky to have insurance, that will not cover all the costs of replacing what was lost and of living in temporary quarters while we rebuild. Aldo Waker is working diligently to support his family during this challenging time, but the road ahead is long, and the financial burden is significant. Asher Waker, pursuing a Master's in Finance at the University of Texas, is determined to complete his education while shouldering the responsibility of helping his family rebuild. Maggie Waker, a junior at Westlake High School, is navigating the challenges of adolescence while trying to come to terms with the loss of her childhood home.
